The essence of Takato Yamamoto’s aesthetic lies in his expression, which he refined and sublimated into a new form of “Yamamoto Japonisme.” This emerged from his aspiration to become a painter, inspired by the brushwork of Hikozo Ito—a master of illustration whom he admired as a child—and the influence of Yoshitoshi Tsukioka’s original ukiyo-e prints, which left an indelible impression through their intense colors and bold brushstrokes. His latest art book, *Japonesthetique*, is a culmination of Yamamoto’s unique Japanese aesthetic sensibility, aestheticism, and aestheticism—rooted in the lineage of ukiyo-e and Japanese art—which he has been cultivating since his debut. In addition to the illustrations and cover art for *Nanso Satomi Hakkenden*, the book features icons created for the complete works of Jun’ichirō Tanizaki, as well as works provided to authors such as Kyōka Izumi, Kido Okamoto, Seishi Yokomizo, Fūtarō Yamada, Shuji Terayama, Asako Yamashiro (Otsuichi), and the theater troupe *Shinkansen*, as well as series of ghost paintings and *shunga* (erotic art). It is a monograph brimming with the allure of Yamamoto’s Japonisme and aestheticism.
